America is a sick, sick place...

[technology | AOL | news]
...judging by the "random sample" of 500,000 AOL users and their rather, er, unusual searches. Consumerist.com (a very funny consumer advocate blog) skewers individual user IDs with some disturbing search patterns (The reader comments are almost equally amusing).

Meanwhile, BusinessWeek reports on AOL's immediate apology and quotes privacy advocates who are starting to take notice.
"Search query data can contain the sum total of our work, interests, associations, desires, dreams, fantasies and even darkest fears," said Lauren Weinstein, a privacy advocate.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas?
