LONDON (AFX) - The area around key central London railway terminal, Liverpool Street station, has been closed by police following an explosion at 8.50 am this morning, police said.

'We believe there was some sort of explosion. There are some walking wounded at Aldgate,' a police spokesman said, referring to an underground station near Liverpool Street.

'We are not sure of the scale of the incident. Reports are still coming in,' police said.

Liverpool Street serves the city's financial district.
