Snoooooowwwww!

Late yesterday afternoon we finally got snow in London. Freak cold snap meant that flurries of hard-packed snow were drifting into our garden. Van was ecstatic; she had just seen her first snowfall earlier when we were flying back from Belfast (more on this later). After we had lunch I thought i saw an errant flake drift in and land on the bricks; Van wouldn't believe me until the white stuff started coming down half an hour later. Her voice rises about two octaves and she starts bouncing up and down whenever she sees snow now.

It reminded me of China, and me and Jayce waiting for snow in Tianjin. Most Filipinos just absolutely love the snow; we were brought up on "White Christmas" and other US staples even though the only snow we ever saw was the fake "grated ice" kind in Star City; nothing like the real thing. It's only after two or three deep winters that we adopt the resigned attitude of most Westerners to snow: slushing our way through while hoping the trains don't get delayed.

The best part was having coffee by the fire, safe and warm while the rest of the world froze outside.

Comments:
It's snowing here in Washington DC too...snowing bad...no work today (I'm a teacher, school's closed because of snow)...yey!!!

Your blog entry reminded me of my entry about the first snow:
