The Passion of Michael Moore

I fervently hope Fahrenheit 9/11 will come to Manila (if it hasn't already - can someone please confirm this?) I watched it by myself in a packed cinema house and had to wait about five minutes for the applause to die down before leaving my seat.

That's right, an ovation from the Brits, for a film - a documentary! - from a very loud, very American rabble-rouser. A film which has exceeded all expectations (it took more in its opening weekend than Return of the Jedi), and without any help from the Bush-kissing media outlets of the Empire, managed to sell out in nearly every moviehouse it was shown in.

Frankly, the fact that even right wing channels like Fox News gave it a glowing review surprised me. At least it would have if I hadn't gone to see it for myself.

This is a really, really good film. And by "good " I don't mean unbiased, or objective - it is a masterful propaganda piece, an emotional, outraged and one-sided rant against the extremists by a man who's spent a lot of time gathering ammunition. It's incredibly funny - people in the moviehouse were laughing in disbelief at some of the idiotic things that came out of the mouths of Bush and his cronies. (almost puts ERAP and good old Didagen Dilangalen to shame... almost)

Michael Moore, as interviewed by Entertainment Weekly, is no angel either. In fact he's a rather defensive, self-promoting, sensationalist activist. But he can direct, and he can write, and I am really thankful he is around to save the idiots across the ocean from themselves.
