Loyalist - May 04, 2004
Am back in the old U.K. again. Van and I are waking up at 4:30am to take 5am jogs and I come back for breakfast and a quick shower before going to work. I hope we never break this routine.
* * *
Too often during my weeklong visit I heard people say they would vote for Gloria Arroyo over (insert name of candidate here) simply because she is the Sure Thing, or else invoking the Anyone But principle (as in, "anyone but FPJ"). To these I can only quote the following from my favorite Pinoy columnist:
"The 'winnability' of candidates is not written in the stars, it is written in the ballot. The 'winnability' of candidates is not a power they hold in their hands, it is a power I hold in my hands. I do not vote for a candidate, he will not win. I vote for a candidate, he will win. It is as simple as that. I've said it before and I say it again: The only thing worse than being powerless is having the power and not knowing you do. Or worse, having the power and relinquishing it to the illusion-sellers."
So to all those voting this Monday - please don't "sell" your votes by default. Especially not to someone who would collectively sell our nation to the States, again and again, at the drop of a hat.
