snapshot

by the pool, the lights underwater
casting highlights on our skin,
we swim slowly in the cold, cold air:
our bodies making currents
in the stillness there.

not long after, sharon calls us for a picture.
so we climb up on the ledge, dripping water
from a sleeping fountain high above our heads.
back against the marble: shivering in the chill
holding in our stomachs as people always will.

we pose, the camera timer blinking
as sharon runs into the pool;
our smiles are blinded by the brilliant eye
that throws fluorescent light
into the evening sky.
