Filipino pride
I suppose it speaks volumes about the country I call home that whenever I tell people I'm from the Philippines, there is only one truly consistent answer from the average Joe.
An American, once so introduced, would be associated instantly with the current President of their country - hence the Yankee Go Home passion inspired by George Bush. Tony Blair too has become iconic around the world as Britain's leader. North Korea has Kim Il Sung (and his space cadet son).
Tell a non-Filipino what country you come from, and the only name that truly stands out in the world at large is Imelda Marcos. That's right. Some people even think she's the sitting
President (nevermind that we have had as many male presidents as females in the years since Edsa).
There's a lesson in this (or at least a mildly amusing joke), but I am just not in the mood to find it out.
