Macapagal angry, embarrassed
A "VERY ANGRY" President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordered Monday a nationwide manhunt for Indonesian explosives expert Fathur Rohman al-Ghozi and two suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf terror group after they escaped from the Philippine National Police (PNP) general headquarters under highly suspicious circumstances.
Airports and seaports have also been put on alert for Al-Ghozi, who belongs to the Jemaah Islamiya regional terrorist group. He has allegedly confessed to involvement in Dec. 30, 2000, bombings in Metro Manila that killed 22 people.
Al-Ghozi escaped with Abdulmukim Ong Edris and Omar Opik Lasal -- both accused of participation in Abu Sayyaf kidnappings of Americans in the past -- between 3:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. from the heavily secured compound of the Intelligence Group in Camp Crame, PNP director general Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. said.
"If you have a gun and you see them, you can shoot them," Ebdane said as he showed reporters pictures of the escapees.
Now, I don't know who this idiot Ebdane is, but he deserves a place in the seventh circle of Hell. You know, the one with "murderers, war makers and and homicides". I have no sympathy for the escapees but it's almost surreal how he flippantly encourages the sort of vigilantism that has threatened our gangster-infested society for so long.
On the other hand, maybe my folks can now get rid of that pesky neighborhood shabu pusher on the grounds that he bore a striking resemblance to Al-Ghozi?
Scary.
